Installed side extension kit dimensions:
7 ½ feet wide by 15 feet long when installed as the compatible side extension layout.
7 ½ feet tall outside and 7 feet inside overhead clearance. This gives customers a quick reference for both exterior height and usable interior clearance before ordering.
These add-on kits will only work in conjunction with another kit (Fence Kit With Top 1 in this case). Before ordering, confirm that you are extending a compatible Fence Kit With Top 1 layout. Some of the hardware in your original kit will be reused and replaced with the new hardware from this kit.
Bottom wire: These fence kits with top don't include chew protection, which may not be necessary or apply to your project. If you need to add steel wire to the bottom of this fencing, please visit our metal fence rolls page and select the fencing type. Adding a bottom wire can be helpful when the project needs extra ground-level protection for smaller animals or chewing pressure. If you do decide to add it, here's what's suggested:
- 2’ Critterfence® Steel Web 1" opening size, used to exclude most small animals and rabbits
- 3’ Critterfence® Steel Web 1" opening size, same as above, but added height for groundhogs/woodchucks, dog containment, or coyote exclusion
- 4’ Critterfence® Steel Web 1" opening size, same as above, but added additional width. This is typically used by customers who want to increase the amount of overlap on the ground from the standard 6" or wish to bury part of the fencing
- 2’, 3’, and 4’ tall ½" Opening Steel Grid: Used for the same applications above, only this mesh has a smaller opening size. This metal bottom wire fencing is used to exclude even the smallest animals, like moles, voles, and snakes. It's roughly twice as heavy and strong as our Steel Web fencing.
You can also choose a different fence kit that uses all metal fencing, Fence Kit With Top 4. This may be a better fit when the entire enclosure needs metal mesh instead of poly mesh.
Notes:
Posts are round galvanized inside and out, then black powder-coated, and no-dig sleeves are heavily galvanized inside and out for extreme long life. The ground sleeves go into the ground 30", while the finished height of the fence posts is the height above ground (for example, 8’ finished height is 8’ above the ground once the sleeve is in place and the post has been installed). This means the listed finished height refers to the installed above-ground height, not the total post length before installation.
All posts with ground sleeves can be installed permanently or made removable. No-dig ground sleeves get driven into the ground with a sledgehammer. The posts then slide inside the sleeve and lock in with a locking set screw (patent pending). To remove posts for seasonal protection or to move your fence, just cut the fence ties holding the fence to the posts and roll up the fencing. You can then slide the post up out of the sleeve.
To make posts permanent, tighten the locking set screw in each sleeve to prevent the post from spinning or coming up out of the post. This gives customers the flexibility to choose a removable or more permanent installation based on the enclosure layout.
For rocky or heavily compacted ground, we suggest using a San Angelo digging bar to pilot the hole for sleeves (instructions with kit). You can also use a powered drill or hammer drill with our sleeve auger bit.
These fence kits are designed to be installed on level and flat areas. If you're installing this over an area that has a slope or is pitched in one direction, some cutting or modifying of the fence post height will be required. This may make the overall height of your fence shorter. For example, if you are installing in an area that slopes from high to low, to make the enclosure level, you would cut the front posts 1", the middle posts ½", and leave the rear posts. Review the installation area before ordering so the side extension can be planned around slope, clearance, and post height requirements.
These fence kits start with approximately 7’ of overhead clearance. The side posts are 7 ½’ out of the ground, but some space is needed for the framing and side bracing. Access gates are available separately; select 7’ tall gates or shorter for proper installed clearance. This helps ensure any separately ordered gate works with the available installed clearance.
Updated product note
Before ordering, confirm that this Side Extension, Poly add-on kit is being used with the compatible Fence Kit With Top 1 setup and that the 7 ½’ wide by 15’ long installed extension dimensions match your enclosure plan. For projects that need bottom chew protection or smaller animal exclusion, review the suggested metal bottom wire options above before finalizing the kit.
